Karl
Krogstad's Film Collection Over
the course of his long career, Karl Krogstad has produced and directed
more than 65 short and feature-length films, and has been honored with
30 awards from international film festivals. “Love him or hate
him, there’s no denying the artistic imperative that drives his
vision of experimental cinema,” says Seattle Weekly. According
to Resonance Magazine, “the 54-year-old artist is irrepressible,
annoying, P.T. Barnum and a self induced maniac.” Seattle filmmaker
Ryan Purcell (whose recent documentary “Kennewick Man” also
premiered at SAM) describes Krogstad as, “the only film school
in town.” True
to his mode of teaching, and consistent with an artistic presence that
loves to talk about himself, Krogstad always creates a “Theory
Sheet” as part of his film premieres. These treatises provide
the audience with a wealth of details about the artistic choices that
sprang from the mind of this wacky, creative personality. Krogstad has
always invited, inspired, cajoled, begged and demanded others to participate
in his process. One of the new films is a fictional history of Krogstad
Studios in which he attempts to acknowledge the large community of film
professionals, students and enthusiasts who have given their labor and
devotion to Krogstad Studios over a period of 35 years. |
